What actually happens to your filter

Two of these nine steps are cleaning. The other seven exist to establish whether cleaning is the right answer at all, and to prove it worked.

Step 01 · 15 minVehicle Inspection

A physical assessment of the exhaust system before a single tool is picked up.

  • Visual inspection of the full exhaust line for leaks, cracks and heat damage
  • Filter housing, clamp and mounting condition recorded
  • Service history and reported symptoms captured
  • Photographic record opened against the job number
Step 02 · 30 minComputer Diagnostics

Manufacturer-level ECU interrogation across every module, not just the engine.

  • Full fault code read with freeze-frame data
  • Regeneration history and interrupted-cycle count
  • Soot load versus calculated ash load
  • Live sensor data logged against known-good baselines
Step 03 · 20 minBack Pressure Test

The measurement that separates a genuinely blocked filter from a sensor fault.

  • Differential pressure measured across the filter under controlled load
  • Result compared against the manufacturer specification for the platform
  • Sensor reading cross-checked against the physical measurement
  • Restriction quantified as a percentage of design flow
Step 04 · 25 minFilter Assessment

Removal and inspection to determine whether cleaning will actually resolve the fault.

  • Filter extracted, indexed and weighed
  • Substrate inspected for cracking, melting and channel collapse
  • Ash-to-soot ratio assessed to confirm cleaning viability
  • Go / no-go decision issued before any cleaning is charged
Step 05 · 2–4 hrsIndustrial Cleaning Process

Multi-stage thermal and pneumatic cleaning through the full channel depth.

  • Controlled thermal cycle to break down accumulated hydrocarbons
  • Reverse-direction pneumatic pulse cleaning through every channel
  • Ash extracted from the full substrate depth, not just the inlet face
  • Process parameters logged against the job number
Step 06 · 20 minFlow Testing

Objective verification on a calibrated flow bench — the proof the clean worked.

  • Post-clean flow measured on a calibrated bench
  • Result compared directly against the pre-clean baseline
  • Restoration percentage calculated and recorded
  • Filter returned to cleaning if it falls short of target
Step 07 · 30 minFinal Diagnostics

Refitment, adaptation reset and a full post-work system verification.

  • Refitted with new gaskets, clamps and sensor seals throughout
  • Every joint torqued to specification and recorded
  • ECU adaptation values and ash counters reset correctly
  • Leak test performed under load
Step 08 · 30 minRoad Test

Verification under real load, because a workshop idle proves very little.

  • Live data logged across the full load and rev range
  • Regeneration cycle confirmed to initiate and complete
  • Power delivery and throttle response assessed
  • No stored faults confirmed on return
Step 09 · 15 minCustomer Report

A written record of what was measured, what was done, and what to expect.

  • Before and after flow and back pressure figures
  • Photographs of the filter at each stage
  • Root cause identified with preventive recommendations
  • Warranty certificate and next service interval issued

About the process

Turnaround, method, and what cleaning can and cannot recover.

Most passenger vehicles and light commercials are completed within a single working day, typically four to eight hours from arrival to handover. Heavy commercial and off-highway equipment may take longer depending on access and filter size. Fleet customers on contract can use our loan filter pool, where a cleaned filter is fitted as yours is removed — reducing vehicle downtime to roughly an hour.
